1974

The story:

What do I remember/know?
  • Pictured in this photo are me (Barbara (May) Unzen, my friend Janice Thorau and behind Janice would most likely be my sister Karen (May) Senger).
  • We apparently had biked to the public pool in New Ulm. Since there’s a photo, Mom must have been there. We don’t have all that many childhood photos so I wonder why it was a photo-worthy occasion. Hmm.
  • It was 1974 which makes me 11 years old. 1974 . . . aren’t the bikes fun? Check out our cool bike baskets. Great swimsuits, right?
  • These days everyone knows about US Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. In those days we had Mark Spitz and I remember there were posters Mark Spitz at the pool.
  • An amusing (to me at least) memory that comes to mind seeing this photo is of me taking swimming lessons at the public pool. I’m not sure this is accurate, but I remember that at some point I "failed" my swimming lessons and I was mad. “If you're not going to pass me, I'll show you. I'm not going to take lessons anymore, so there.” FYI, I was always a perfectly competent swimmer so obviously it was OK.

Anita Designs & Kim B Designs: Feeling Happy The Kit

Fingerpointing | I just noticed I got a GSO Saturday!

Sharing ... I just noticed that I got a Gallery Standout on Saturday and somehow I  missed it. This certainly makes my day ... after the fact! ;) Do you follow the daily GSO posts? If not, you should check it out. It's full of awesome inspiration!

Here's the page they chose:

LONDON 2017 | I sent my spring break book off to Blurb for printing! | My Design Process

I sent my spring break LONDON vacation book off to BLURB for printing last night. Let the waiting begin ...

I want to take a moment to share with you my design process for vacation albums. My process for designing my vacation albums has changed a lot over the years. For the last several years, and a few vacation albums, I've moved to a very clean and simple look - what I imagine a "coffee table picture book" would look and feel like. I want the focus of these albums to be simply on the photos and the stories of our trips. This style has the added advantage of allowing me to send my vacation albums off to print more quickly (and therefore I get them back more quickly!) because I've got one theme that I use throughout. It's a process that works very well for me. Each vacation album is certainly different from the others, but they have the same "clean and simple theme."

That being said, it is hard sometimes. I really enjoy the art of designing completely different pages for every story I want to tell. I am still able to do that though because I will definitely include London photos and stories in my annual family album. For the most part I will not use my vacation album pages for my annual family album. I will scrap completely different pages for those stories - and the stories I tell and photos I use will drive the style of page I choose to create. It gives me the best of both worlds, plus I get to have my vacation album in front of me as I decide which stories I want to tell in my family album!

I LOVE THIS HOBBY!

Before I go on, if you'd like to see more of the pages I create, follow me on my Facebook page: Barbara's Digital Designs.

So ... here goes ... FYI, this is a very image heavy post so I hope you have a cup of coffee in front of you! ;) NOTE: I've got a thick white border on every page, so that may not show up clearly in this post.

Following is the front cover of the book:

Following is the intro page of the album (I just changed it up a little bit to add a family photo and the border line):

And finally, following are the "guts" of my book!

And last, but not least, following is the back cover of the album:

Thanks for looking!
